The Lakes of Smolyan
The Lakes of Smolyan are located on the left slope of the Black river valley, under the Orpheus rocks and Snezhanka's peak ( 1926 m) in Rodopi Mountain. The lakes are all over the whole valley, from the Orpheus rocks to the Smolyan city itself.
In the past the lakes were around 20, but nowadays 7 are well formed and the other are turned into swamps. During the spring and autumn some of these swamps become again small lakes and others are turned into fishponds.
The beautiful nature in the region is home to a lot of famous species of flora and fauna. Here You can find centuries old beech trees, as well as marked with signs "The Throne of Evridika" and "The Lira of Orpheus" group of trees.
The Lakes of Smolyan are appropriate for any kind of tourism - mountain tourism, few days trip with overnight sleeping, weekend or excursion or just a sunny day picnic. Eco-trails, the marking and the signboards are very well regulated, so You can not confuse ore lost. The more higher you walk, the more You will enjoy the mountain spirit of the Lakes of Smolyan.
