Uhlovitsa Cave

Uhlovitsa Cave is one of the most-beautiful caves in Bulgaria. It is located 3 km north-east from Mogilica village in about 30 km south-west from Smolyan city and 37 km from Pamporovo resort. The cave is situated in the area of Blue pools in the Rodopi Mountain, not far away from the Greek border.

Uhlovitsa is situated at an altitude of 1040 m, the temperature during the whole year is 10 - 11 degrees. The lenght of the cave is 460 m, as only 330 m are available for tourists.

The cave is one of the oldest in the region. It is discovered in 1967. The origin of its name comes from the word "Ululitsa", which means owl, which probably had been living in the region of the cave. With its beautiful formations, "Uhlovitsa" often is compared to an underground window.
